dschubert / compton

Compton is a standalone compositor for X, useful with window managers that do not provide native compositing functionality. It is a fork of xcompmgr-dana.

Installation Instructions

Enable this repo in dnf, then install compton:

dnf copr enable dschubert/compton dnf install compton

Compton can be run manually using the following command:

Various command-line options are available; furthermore a configuration file can be used (~/.compton.conf, ~/.config/compton.conf or /etc/xdg/compton.conf). A sample configuration can be found in /usr/share/doc/compton/. Refer to the compton manpage for more information.

You may want to autostart compton with your X session. Depending on your desktop environment or window manager, there will be various ways to do this. E.g. in i3 you might add

exec --no-startup-id "compton -b"

to your .config/i3/config (the -b option will run compton as a background process or daemon).

Note that compton has not been actively maintained for some time and that there are some known issues.

While I make an effort to conform to the Fedora Packaging Guidelines, this package is unofficial and has not been formally reviewed. Use it at your own peril.
