Installation Instructions
EL8 ships with java 1.8.0. jEdit requires Java OpenJDK > version 11*. This is available in EL8, but will need to be set as default using '># alternatives --config java'. EL9 and Fedora builds come with more recent versions of java.
*Note: EL8 spec has a hard requirement of java-11-openjdk as the RPM solver kept thinking the included 1.8.0 satisfied requirements. jEdit may work with later versions such as the included Java 17. Suggestions welcome.
